Description: (J335) For sale here is an unusual WW2 Cotton Poplin Jungle Jacket. I have shown this around and the consensus seems to be that this is a Lend Lease jacket made in the US for either British or Commonwealth Forces. However, it could be a prototype US jacket. The jacket is made of OD Green Cotton Poplin. The jacket features all black painted 13 star steel buttons that are all present, 2 side belt loops, epaulettes(W/ 13 Star buttons), 5 13 star button front closure, and 2 breast pockets with hidden 13 star button closures. The wearer’s left breast pocket features a functional brass Conmar zipper closure under the flap. The Conmar zipper is definitely 1940’s and is the same type found on M42 Jump Jacket Knife Pockets. Under the left breast pocket flap is a handwritten surplus price of $5.00. Under the right breast pocket flap is a stamp from Hy Top Surplus Sales of Columbus Ohio. I do not see signs of a maker’s tag in either pocket or anywhere else in the jacket, for that matter. The only marking is the red on white cloth 36R size tag in the collar. The jacket does show use, age, wear, soiling, a few stains, and a small tear in the right cuff. The belt is not present. The buttons show age, wear, and paint loss. Inside, the jacket has draw strings for inner closure. All seem to agree that the epaulettes and belt loops are usually seen at this time on Commonwealth pieces and that this is definitely a US made piece. This is certainly too well made to be a one off, and I can find no other such pieces anywhere. The jacket is solid and will wear or display well. The measurements are below for your convenience.
