Description: I am VERY excited to offer for your consideration this INCREDIBLE, newly restored Mission Style chandelier! This is, without a doubt, one of the finest pieces I have ever offered for sale. I hardly know where to begin, but… The glass! It is wildly textured on the backside, known in the glassmaking industry as granite-backed glass, which produces the multi-dimensional effect (such as seen in the glass on this fixture) when light is shone through it. The colors are positively sublime, like having one’s own personal sunset, when illuminated. By and large, the glass is mostly a red and green marble, but there are small traces of subtle pinks, blues, and oranges to be found throughout the six panels. The chains! This is some of the thickest gauge chain I’ve ever seen used on a lighting fixture before. It is really some heavy, stout stuff! All suspended from one brass ring, notice how gracefully they drape down and delicately hook into the perimeter of the shade. The patina is mottled and very rich. The metalwork! The motif of the metal cutouts on the shade remind one of something gothic in nature, or of a classic Spanish revival flavor. I have taken several photos showcasing the wild, red/brown patina. It is really quite striking, and adds to the overall Arts & Crafts feeling that this fixture produces. The FRINGE!!! When I rescued this fixture, it had but only one sad little strand of the original beaded fringe left hanging on the inside of the shade. I scoured the internet for like, and hand sewed two layers of it back on, making for a very lush finish to an already amazing fixture. It should be noted that if the fringe isn’t really your style, that it is very easily removed. It is sewn onto a metal wire, shaped to fit the shape of the shade, held on by metal tab/hooks in the corners between each panel of glass. Fixtures such as these commonly had fringe like this when new, but it is almost always missing after many decades of service. Having discovered the remnant that I did, I simply couldn’t NOT put it back! The sockets and insulators are original (and fabulous!), and in fine shape. They accept standard base bulbs (not included). I would recommend warm white Edison style LED’s. The wire inside the cluster is all new, as is the vertical wire laced through the chain, which is brown, and cloth covered as it would have originally been. The wire cluster as I found it did not originally have a cover (and was packed full of 100+ years of crud!), so I added one to it to guard against dust accumulation. It is made of unfinished brass, so it will tarnish over time. Hidden up inside the fixture, though, and top-facing, one would never notice this unless they were to climb up on a ladder for a close inspection. The fixture hangs down 50 & 1/2 inches, and is 24 inches in diameter. So, it’s big. BIG, BIG! It is definitely scaled to hang over a dining room, library, or large entry table. Most dining room tables, including my own, are around 30 inches tall. The ceilings in my home are 9 foot 6 inches tall, and the bottom of the fringe hangs around 3 feet from the top of my table, for reference. I am unable to make length adjustments on this fixture, as each link in the chain is soldered together, making it very difficult to take apart, nor would I be able to match it for the purposes of making it any longer. One panel of glass has suffered minor breakage to one of its bottom corners over its lifetime, and this damage was repaired some time ago. From the front, the crack measures about one inch in length. Being so small, and tucked away in a corner, this hardly registers. I am unsure what kind of glue or epoxy was used to make the repair. This flaw is seen in the last photo of the listing. I will remove all of the glass prior to shipping and pack with great care. Shipping is to be via UPS or FEDEX. Please feel free to message me with any questions you may have!
