Description: Vintage BOMBAY COMPANY English Style Butler's Tray Foldable Table. This vintage portable table / removable tray is a perfect addition to the living room as a coffee table, but the 4-folding upright edges transforms this into a huge removable tray. The Bombay Co. was founded in New Orleans in 1978, this table is believed to be from 1980. Originally, butler trays were used in England during the 19th century. It was designed for a butler to drape the bottom-piece over the bent arm, while lifting the tray up to carry for an afternoon tea to any room or patio, always handy for carrying many heavy pieces & made of extremely solid wood in mahogany finish. The brass hinges can fold-up, keeping all the items securely from sliding off, especially when many pieces need transporting some distance. Also, the table-stand has a wing nut for each leg, made to completely remove in case this is for temporary use or special occasions/Halloween/dinner parties/movable bar. It can be stored away under a bed, behind a door, against the pantry or closet wall or hung on hook. This makes it a versatile piece of furniture that exudes elegance & sophistication. Condition is in very good shape showing only cosmetic wear hinges have some dark patina, as expected with age. Some areas have scratches/scuffs from use/storage over the years, nothing serious (see pictures as part of description). It can be refinished but it looks amazing as is!
