Vintage Baule embroidered cloth geometric, West Africa BL51

Description: Mid-century hand-loomed Baule cloth from Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast). This is a very unique textile with a peron's name embroidered on it; most likely made as a wedding cloth. The textile would make an excellent shawl or throw, or it could be framed as art. The textile has been handwoven from raw, unprocessed cotton in 7 1/4" (18.5cm) wide strips which are hand sewn together to form one large cloth. Traditionally worn as a wrapper, these textiles all unique in shade, size and wear. The textile is 45 1/2" (115.5cm) wide x 63" (160cm) long with a 1/2" fringe. It is in shades of faded emerald green cotton with red, yellow, black and white cotton and wool embroidery. Several of the embroidery threads are loose [see photos] and no holes or stains that I can see. The textile is in heavily worn condition and the cotton is quite finely woven. This is a wonderful collectors piece. I recommend had washing separately in cold water with mild soap. This piece has already been washed and ironed and can be used immediately.
