Description: This vintage, red Mattel Hot Wheels Classic 31 Ford Woody (part of the 1969 Hot Wheels "Classics Series" lineup - though cast in 1968) has clear glass (uncracked), and the rarest interior shade, "Champagne". Designer Ira Gilford fashioned two types of roofs: "fingerprint textured" (otherwise known as wrinkled) and smooth. This is the flat black smooth version (the early versions were flat while the latter manufactured versions were glossy.) It was only built in the US, and enjoyed only one year of production (with one retooling, in 2012.) Four different body casting revision letters exist. The body casting letter is visible on the inside bottom surface of the roof. A,B,D and E castingshave been found. "A" bodies have only been found on unpainted prototypes, and at least one brown Woody. This proves brown Woodies to be early production, or possiblyprototypes. "B" bodies are common to flat black roof cars (this is a "B" version), and have been found to be very common. No "C" bodies were found in a survey of over 200 Woodies. "D" and "E" bodies are common on late run cars, with "D" bodies being more proliferate. There is also an "E-2" body which indicates a second die tool was in parallel use. Four chassis styles have been identified: A,B,C and D. "A" Chassis has straight side pipes, and a round open rear alignment hole. The "B" Chassis has a radius added to pipes on base with a round, open rear alignment hole. "C" Chassis: Radius on pipes; Rear alignment hole oblong and closed, LARGE Trademark "R" symbol, chassis casting lengthened at the rear, covering the rear edge of the body casting. Circle "C" is hard to see, unless you compared it against earlier castings.) The version you are bidding on is chassis "C." The "D" Chassis: Radius on side pipes; rear alignment hole oblong and closed, large Trademark "R" symbol is replaced with a small "circle "C" after HOT WHEELS; Large Trademark "R" moved to the end of CLASSIC 31 FORD WOODY; chassis casting long at the rear ("A" chassis are rare). This car has been carefully stored away since the early '70s - a relative's death revealed a stash of toys to entertain visiting grandchildren - the cars were only played with when the grandkids visited.
