Description: *** Rare and Long Out of Print *** The Yeti By Odette Tchernine Hardcover with Original Dust Jacket: 184 Pages — Publisher: Spearman; First UK Edition (1970) A report from the 'Abominable Snowman' front containing the unpublished findings from the recent expeditions of Dr K. Ramamurti of Bhutan, Dr Boris Porshnev of the USSR Academy of Sciences, professor Dr Rinchen of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and Professor Jeanne Josefovna Kofman, who are all actively engaged in research into the phenomenon. In 1921 Colonel C. K. Howard-Bury, leader of an Everest expedition, reported coming across large naked footprints that looked human, on the Lhakpa La, a 21,000ft pass north-east of Everest. His porters were questioned and he learned that they were the tracks of a Metch Kangmi. Kang was known to mean snow and mi was known to mean man, but the metch gave experts some trouble. Eventually it was thought to mean disgusting. The Abominable Snowman controversy was born. This book attempts to extricate the truth about a phenomenon of nature that has been ignored and ridiculed for centuries. Far from being confined to the Himalayas the creature is known in Alaska, Russia, the north-west of America, China, Africa and India. It is also known under such names as Bigfoot, Migo, Chemosit, Almas, Dev, Yeti, Sasquatch and many others. Miss Tchernine has co-ordinated scientific reports from all over the world of the history of a certain rare living creature. Out of the mists of legend, deceit, superstition and fear emerges a figure bound to cause a great deal of controversy and be quite unacceptable to those who consider that Neanderthal man has long been extinct. Can the proud homo sapiens bring himself to accept that the Yeti could well be a brother, or is he doomed to inevitable extinction unrecognized, living out a tenable existence in the rapidly diminishing wastelands of the world?
