Description: This is an excellent, near mint example of a 1968 classic. It is all original except the strap. All functions work perfectly. The 5606 movement was Seiko's flagship movement from 1978 to the late 70s. It was very sophisticated and refined, used in the top of the line Grand Seiko, the King Seiko and their chronometers. It was the thinnest automatic movement available when it was introduced. It features auxiliary hand winding and hacking. The quick date/day change works (this is a common fault in this model) This watch has been professionally overhauled/serviced and I confidently guarantee it for 90 days. The dial, index markers, logos and hands are in near mint condition. The dial is iridescent white that I found difficult to photograph. The case is in great condition with only light patina. It has been lightly re-polished. This is definitely a watch for the serious collector. Caliber No. 5606ACase No. 5606-7040Serial No. 858735Dial Ref. 5606 7040T ADA note about the Timegrapher report: After overhauling and calibration, this watch performs exceptionally well so I include a photo of the timegrapher reading. Please be aware that this reading was taken on the bench and results may vary in the real world because accuracy depends on several variable factors, mainly temperature, power on the mainspring and general conditions of use. Overhaul/Service Explained I am often asked about what an overhaul entails. So, I have started adding a photo of the movement, disassembled ready to go through the cleaning machine. All old dried-up lubricants, crud and anything else that shouldn't be there is cleaned away. Then, the movement is reassembled, lubricated, adjustments made and regulated. Routinely, the back and the crown seals are replaced (where possible) as are the spring lugs. The case is lightly re-finished if necessary. Also, the glass is re-polished if required and possible. Customer satisfaction is our priority. This classic has been overhauled/serviced and is guaranteed for 90 day from the day of purchase. If there is any problem with your purchase, please contact me and it will be sorted or your money will be refunded.Water resistance and accidental damage is not guaranteed. An Important Note to the successful buyer.Never use the quick day/date change function when the time show between 2 hours before and 2 hours after midnight. This could damage the quick day/date mechanism. International buyers: Postage cost includes insurance. The purchaser is responsible for any import duty and/or taxes. Please be aware that, in recent times, international postage is experiencing longer than usual delays. About vintage mechanical watches:A vintage mechanical watch will not perform like a modern quartz (electronic) watch. It is not ideal as a daily wearer. It should be treated for what it is, something old, classical and special. Treat it as you would a vintage car - not ideal to use as a “daily driver”. Keep it in the condition at which you bought it and it will hold or, indeed, increase its value. Use it every day and it will go backwards. About Me: I am a born again watchmaker! I finished my apprenticeship in 1973 having completed technical training at the RMIT, Melbourne. In the early 80s I went into retail (jewellery and watches). About 25 years ago I realised that the watches that once were common had become rare and I began to appreciate their beauty both in style and mechanically. That’s when I started collecting classics. When covid hit, I retired from retail, set up a workshop at home, regained my skills and am now restoring classics with a passion.
