Description: Original WW2 wings for the USAAF uniform coat. Full size, measuring approximately 3 ” across from wing tip to wing tip (the backing material measures 4” across from edge to edge). Unissued and no traces of sewing or use. Edge frays and the edge is not entirely even. The thread did not age evenly in color and so there are darker and lighter areas. I have several and yours will be the equal or better than pictured. Embroidered of silk thread on a cloth backing. Unissued and no traces of sewing or use. According to Campbell's, "Aviation Badges and Insignia of the US Army", page 30, "These were full size patterns for the uniform coats but most of this type were worn improperly on shirts when they were the outer garments. Uniform regulations prescribed only metal wing badges for shirts, to measure two inches, tip to tip. In actual practice, during World War II, when the shirt was the outer garment, some wore full size badges, some wore the silk thread embroidered full size badges, some wore the smaller silver wings, and many wore no wing badges at all, unless it was required." This is a hobby not a living, so I try to keep it fun, otherwise why do it. Thank you for trading with me on eBay. _gsrx_vers_625 (GS 6.9.7 (625))
