Description: GOLD QUARTZ POLISHED INLAY from OREGON'S BLUE MTNS. Gold & Sultry Tan Welcome to the Gold of Eldorado! Here's a piece of polished quartz with islands of high-purity gold (850-880 fine) inside. It represents a new strain unearthed recently in Baker Cty. Oregon. Cab is flat-lapped; polished on both faces; ideal for inlay. If you know the history of eastern Oregon, you're aware of the vast sums of gold mined from the Blue Mtns. I guarantee the authenticity of this gem and the gold contained. If you're drawn to exotic gemstone from the old, wild U.S. west, maybe this one's for you. As sole proprietor/operator of my Ebay store, I've been selling native gold and platinum products here for roughly ten years. Back in the 80s and 90s, I was a full-time placer-miner. There's just something about hunting for (and working with) the elusive yellow metal known as gold. For one thing, out west, any normal (or abnormal) person can go hunt for gold with a realistic chance of meeting with success. As you stroll through my store, expect to find lots of useful prospecting information and stories based upon my goldfield experiences. If you don't know much about gold, gold ores/gold quartz, lapidary, gemology, mineralogy, geology, or mining for gold; if you don't care for jewelry at all, just buy and cache this beautiful rock full of gleaming precious metal. Weight: 14.5 Grains (Troy) - 4.6 Carats Size: 12.9X10.1X2.7 mm If you're unfamiliar with gold quartz, it's essentially gold ore...high-grade, not 'run-of-the-mill' ore. When conditions are right, dissolved silicon dioxide (silica) and gold crystallize thus forming gold-bearing quartz veins. This happens as super-heated, aqueous solutions, rich in silica and assorted minerals migrate into cracks, fissures, fault zones, and other permeable rock formations. As these pregnant hot waters cool, metals like gold, along with quartz, precipitate and harden; all part of a process known as metallogenesis. Over time, weathering causes bits of gold quartz filling these veins to break off. Nuggets, gold flakes, flour gold, and float rock are the result. Vein filling which retains the host rock and harbors it's precious cargo, gold, if dense enough, can become one of the earth's more highly-prized gemstone mediums. Just to liven things up, mineral compositions vary inside different vein systems. This translates to an interesting variety of matrix colors. The mixed palette in this stone, beginning with the light-blue-steel quartz, are a prime example. The photo is an enlarged representation of the gem. NATIVE MINERALS Check any and all Gold of Eldorado feedback for disputes arising from non-authenticity of the specimens I sell. You won't find any. I deal in native minerals with visible gold, not replicas, not 'paint-ons'. I don't peddle 'simulated' specimens made with minute amounts of gold or no real gold at all. No fake nuggets here, folks. I was a professional placer miner myself and personally have bought stuff with gold painted on it. Some so-called 'natural gold quartz' specimens acquired had tiny chunks of placer gold glued into the vugs of barren rock. If folks want to fake their specimens, then it should be mandatory they advertise their products as simulations or replications. All of my advertised specimens, slabs, cabochons, gold ores et al are authentic and contain naturally-occurring, native gold and/or are composed almost entirely of naturally-occurring gold (i.e. gold nuggets, gold flakes, wire gold specimens). The purity of this gold will vary, but you can count on it being fairly high, from 70% to 90% pure on average. For comparision, a 14K gold wedding band is 58% pure gold. Thanks for checking out our digs. I hope you find rich ground ahead. Gold of Eldorado 1-7-17
