Fremont--A Distressing Report" which reports on his fateful fourth expedition in the West during which his party was caught in a snowstorm in Colorado causing loss of ten of his men & 130 of his pack mules. A few bits include: "...the winter as having been so very severe that Colonel Fremont...lost 130 mules in one night...impossible to proceed further...Col. Fremont started himself for Taos...where he arrived in nine days...sufferings of the party are represented to have been so very great that they were even reduced to the necessity of feeding upon the bodies of their comrades...all of Col.
