Description: Aloha To all of our loyal customers and to the rest of the world's ukulele players. You have probably heard by now that Bob and Anne Gleason of Pegasus Guitars on the Big Island, former distributors of Hilo Strings, have semi-retired and are no longer in the string business. We have been retailers of Hilo Strings for our entire 22 years in business, and all our ukuleles are designed for best performance with Hilo Strings. Fortunately, we have arranged to source exactly the same strings from the same manufacturer, and are now selling them for the same prices (for a limited time only) that we used to charge for the Hilo strings. can be assured that your Mele Ukulele will perform exactly as it was designed to with our new "Echoes Of Aloha" strings, which are now the ONLY rectified Tynex ukulele strings available, in exactly the same gauges as the Hilo strings. They will also give maximum performance on most ukuleles, except those that were originally made for gut strings. For these, we recommend low-tension strings, as medium or high tension strings may cause structural issues with some of these older instruments. "Echoes Of Aloha" ukulele strings are now, with the best tone, intonation, sustain and volume, the best strings available for almost any ukulele, at a reasonable price. Echoes are among the only uke strings that are RECTIFIED, just like the highest quality animal-gut uke strings of yesteryear. This means that they are GROUND to a uniform satin finish and consistent thickness, for best uniformity, sustain and intonation. They are made of DuPont Tynex, the highest quality black monofilament nylon available. They have a very slightly higher tension than some other brands, which makes for even a bit more volume and sustain than most. All of our fine handmade Mele are set up for, and strung with, Echoes of Aloha strings, unless a customer requests a different brand (which doesn't happen often). Echoes Soprano and Concert sets are all black rectified Tynex , and are the same gauges but the concert strings are a couple of inches longer. The Concert Low G set has a silverplated copper-wound "G" that's tuned an octave lower than the regular soprano "G". The 4-string tenor set has something unusual: an aluminum-wound "C" string. (Tuned the same as a plain "C" but gives more sustain). Low G tenor set has that plus the silverplated low "G" string. 6 and 8-string tenor sets are similar to 4-string but have an extra high "A" as well as an octave- higher plain C, plus a silverplated wound low "G" or "A". (Or both, on some 6-string sets.) Baritone sets have a siverplated wound "D" and "G" and a plain "B" and "E". Enjoy a lovely new set of uke strings: You'll sound better and (probably) play better, too! NOTE; new ukulele strings, just like classical guitar strings, require a lot of stretching before they will stay perfectly in tune all the time. You may have to stretch and re-tune several times if you change them right before you perform, so BE FOREWARNED! P.S. We are listing all of our most popular sets of Echhoes of Aloha Strings, but if you don't see the particular set you want, give us a call or email us and we'll get them for you.
