Description: Created in 1989, this piece by Frederick Hart titled "Penumbra" has a truly majestic presence. A work of great substance and grace, the sculpture depicts a female subject rendered with a great attention to detail. The interplay of light and shadow is an intrinsic part of the piece, defining the very delicate sense of the image and as is suggested in it name "Penumbra" . As the light reflects off each facet, the sculpture creates a unique effect which suggests a three dimensional image. Physical and sensuous, yet spiritual, graceful and subtle, the work is a perfect example of his distinct poetic vision, but also his philosophical approach and longing for perfection. This piece was originally cast by Ovidiu Colea at Colbar Art in New York City who casted most of Frederick Hart's work and also casts for reknown artist Michael Wilkinson. Mr. Colea is very close to retirement so there is a very good chance that this piece will never be recreated at this level of quality. In addition, the molds used to create this edition were destroyed. This is a museum quality piece with no flaws. Hart's more intimate clear acrylic sculptures (he pioneered the use of acrylics in figurative sculpture, a technique which he calls "sculpting with light") are inventive and revolutionary; physical and sensuous, yet spiritual; direct, yet spiritual; direct, yet graceful and subtle. His figures are classic while his medium of clear acrylic is most modern and technologically advanced. This piece comes wrapped in its original cotton cloth hood in its formed foam packaging. There is a pair of cotton gloves for handing the piece to prevent hand oil marks. Shipping charges are dependant on location. United States shipping only. Insurance charges extra.
