Description: ⭐⭐THIS SET DID NOT COME FROM GETTYSBURG AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS EVER AT THAT BATTLE,I HAD TO BRING A FEW OF MY SURGICAL SETS THIS YEAR WHEN I WENT AND DECIDED TO TAKE A FEW PICS OF MY SETS NEXT TO CIVIL WAR HOSPITAL SIGNS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Complete and matching Van Wyck Brinckerhoff amputation set. Brinkerhoff was a minor manufacturer of surgical sets and instruments during the Civil War. The address on both labels in this set is 88 Williams st. N.Y. Brinckerhoff was at that address only from 1860-1862. Every tool has the Brinckerhoff marking. Brinkerhoff was a known supplier to the Union military Medical and Hospital Departments during the Civil War. Although this is not a military or US hospital issued set, many surgeons and assistant surgeons purchased and used personal sets during the Civil War. A few of the tools, especially the saw looked like it had blood still on it, so I had a couple very small sections tested with luminol and it was a positive reaction, you can also still see the stroke marks on the saw from its last amputation! (See pics).Tourniquet also has blood stains. Parts of the fabric and dividers are starting to separate, and the wood inside the main saw divider is broken but still holds saw /forceps in the lid. Also the small fabric tab for divider is unraveling and is only attached by 2 threads. Lid for small accessory box is warped(See pics) Blades do have some rust and stains and a small piece of the saw's handle is broken off. Case still has a small piece of bone wax, suture needles and silk thread. Case has a crack on top but doesn't effect the strength of the case. Also comes with the original key and the case does lock. Companies like Tiemann and Hernstein where major suppliers of surgical sets and tools during the Civil War so there are still many of those sets around. Brinckerhoff was a minor supplier and to find a complete set like this and made during the Civil War is next to impossible. This type of set is listed in Brinckerhoff's 1859 catalog (last pic) This is one of my favorite surgical sets (I have 40+ CW Era surgical sets) I bought it from the original family of the surgeon. The price is high but that's what it would take for me to let it go. If it never sells, I wouldn't be disappointed, and this is just a way for others to see an original used, bloody, civil war Brinckerhoff set. Feel free to ask any questions or request more photos. Will ship fully insured.
