Description: Photos courtesy of 20th Century Fox Chuck Noland's (Tom Hanks) makeshift ice skate saw from Robert Zemeckis' drama Cast Away. After being stranded on an uninhabited island, Noland used his makeshift saw as part of his tools for survival. This lot consists of one makeshift saw. It features a piece of resin painted to resemble driftwood and a twine-wrapped handle. It exhibits intentional distressing by production to give it an aged and grimy appearance. The ice skate has VHS tape and crafted twine used as rope to secure the skate to the driftwood. The blade of the skate was dulled by production. This skate exhibits notable white paint marks and some fraying of the twine from production. The ice skates were a key prop to the film and used for different circumstances. They were used as a mirror, knife, dentist tool, and as raft building tools. The ice skates would become the ultimate tools Chuck needed to escape the island on his constructed raft. The left ice skate was made into an axe and the right ice skate would become a saw. The axe skate was seen on film throughout the raft building scenes. The saw ice skate was either used as set dressing, unused, or maybe seen in the 'behind the scenes' or 'making of' footage. The ice skate props played an important role in the film and rarely come to market. This production made ice skate tool has great provenance and comes with a Propstore COA.
