Description: BLOOD ON THE SUN Starring James Cagney This brand new and factory sealed DVD stars one of the legends of the day, James Cagney. This 1945 film takes a look back to 1930s Japan. Debuting during the final days of World War II, when Japan was the only Axis power still fighting, this film is an example of Hollywood going after the Nippon menace with gusto. Cagney plays newspaper editor Nick Condon, who investigates a mystery behind the death of two of his reporters. The Tanaka Memorial takes Condon deep into Japanese expansionist plots. All in all, a very good performance for Cagney, who's on the right side of the law in this one as a crusading journalist. Also, thanks to the magic of Hollywood, you can see him as a martial artist, with one particularly memorable judo scene. Just a heads-up though: given the timing and the attitudes of the era, this film is, as you'd expect, anti-Japanese, with pretty much all the Japanese characters portrayed as rigid and/or evil (not to mention portrayed by Caucasian actors, as was the custom of the day).
