Artemisia ludoviciana is a herbaceous perennial groundcover in the Asteraceae family. Its native range is from Canada to El Salvador. Familiar names include Dusty Miller, Native Wormwood, White Sage, and Louisiana Sagewort. It grows from a natural rhizome along dry slopes, prairies, canyons, and open pine woods. It can grow to around 2-4 feet tall and 1-3 feet wide. A drought-tolerant plant that has average water needs once established. The leaves are covered in wooly white hairs from a bare stem. The inflorescence has nodding flower heads with hairy phyllaries and yellow disc florets in the middle. They are in bloom from July until October. It prefers to grow in full sun with well-drained soil. Pollinators love it. Zones 3-10 Germination Mix equal parts of potting soil, vermiculite, and peat moss. Press seeds down into the media. Spread some long-fibered sphagnum moss on top of the potting media. Mist with a spray bottle. Cover the seed tray with clear plastic to maintain a 64-75F. Uncover and mist as needed to keep the media moist. Place under a bright indirect light until germination.
