Description: A rare piece from Indonesian mythology is this beautiful exceptionally detailed wooden flute. This work embodies the mystique and beauty of the Naga, a scaled flying creature that plays a prominent role in Indonesia's rich culture and folklore. The naga is revered as the ruler of waterways and ocean and is considered a symbol of strength, wisdom and protection. Made in the early Georgian period approximately 1910 this rarity is not only carved well to use as a musical instrument for ceremonial rituals but was also given as gifts to visiting local tribal leaders. They began making different calibres of this mythological dragon flute to swap with trade dealers who sailed across from the West Indies becoming highly sort. This antique has signs of age but has no damage or loss. Rather exceptional for its age. 30cm long 10cm wide 14cm high at its head comb. Weighs approximately 1.2kg
