A Confederacy of Dunces is a picaresque, humorous novel by John Kennedy Toole which reached publication in 1980, eleven years after Toole's death by suicide (after partly in due to his dismay at his failure to get the novel published). Through the efforts of writer Walker Percy (who also contributed a foreword) and Toole's mother, Thelma, the book became first a cult classic, then a mainstream success. It earned Toole a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1981, and is now considered a canonical work of modern literature of the Southern United States. CONDITION The book is in VERY GOOD condition. Square spine with firm hinges and joints. Colorful, unfaded cloth. Light rubbing to spine tips and some waviness to the back strip. A few dog-eared pages. A stray ink mark on half-title page and former owner bookplate on FFEP. Pages are clean and bright with the exception of a few small smudges. The unclipped dust jacket is in Good condition - larger chips and some areas of loss along crown and heel and corners. Edge wear - light rubbing, creasing, chips and tears.
