9” Antique IMPERIAL BONN Waterlily LILY POND Botanical Art Nouveau Plate GERMANY

Description: This adorably sweet pond life plate actually measures 9.25. (Ran out of room in the title:) Very pretty indeed, The ONLY wear to it being the expected age use faint surface marks, only seen by myself when tilting around in a light source! No chips, no nicks, no hairlines, no flecks, very nice indeed, a good looker. Olive green, with colors of: Lettuce Green White lily with yellow edging, Orchid- Pink flower buds rising, Black for the finest details The 1755 in the German mark refers to the very earliest origins of this pottery in Bonn, which by 1840 came into the Mehlem family, and although they tried long, Villeroy & Boch were finally successful in purchasing the company in 1921. So, under control and design of Mehlems, from 1840-1921. This faience plate seems to probably date between 1875 and 1890, after which the word Royal was instituted. However, it also could be from the period 1890-1905ish, information on the use of Imperial seems quite scant! My guess is the earlier period mentioned, as the company was not really connected with royalty at that point, and this may have been a necessary change, as well, The hand decorated design is truly done by hand, and has the hint of the Victorian era Aesthetic Period in the natural motif. The latter Mehlems were keen on exporting to England, France, and the USA, hence the Germany mark on their wares. My best guess, after quite a bit of studying!
