Concord NH As the result of Governor Francis P Murphy's message to the legislature on Jan 7,1937 a report by Samuel Crowther, writer and political commentator, which gives a complete double entry bookkeeping picture of the state public affairs, was made to the commission for the promotion of the wealth and income of the people of New Hampshire. It is believed NH is the first state to have attempted to show the operations of a commonwealth by means of the balance seet and income account method used by large corporations. Commentatiing on report Crowtherr said that while the primary concern of the work has been to reveal the affairs of NH, many of the results that have emerged thru the simple application of bookkeeping are of National importance and would seem to point the way to he solution of many important problems.
