Description: **To Be May Queen at Swarthmore** Washington, D.C., April 21 - Miss Patty Morris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin B. Morris of Bethesda, MD, has been elected May Queen for the May Day festivities at Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA. She is a senior and is majoring in French. Harris and Ewing Photos. Swarthmore College, located in Pennsylvania, has a longstanding tradition of celebrating May Day, which includes the crowning of a May Queen. This event is part of a series of festivities that typically involve dances, performances, and other activities that celebrate spring. The selection of a May Queen is often based on the student's contributions to campus life and academic achievements. === This 7x8.5” original type 1 photograph is from the personal collection of photographer Wes Howland (1906-1956). Howland was a reporter with the Harris-Ewing news service in Washington D.C from 1931-1941, and went on to serve with the military. He was one of a small number of photographers with complete access to the White House, Capitol, Senate, and House. This photo was part of a collection of over 1200 8x10” Wes Howland personal archive images that we acquired from his estate. These original prints are exceptionally rare, if not the only that exist. Not only did Mr Howland have incredible access to the government figures of the day, but he was a highly skilled photographer who produced some stunning historical images and documented Washington D.C. in the 1930s like few others. This photo is a unique piece of history, and we trust you will enjoy it in your collection. We are happy to offer discounts if you order multiple photos.
