Description: This is an extremely rare item - one that the US Mint error specialists and exonumia afficionados can appreciate. This original encased St. Louis World's Fair Indian Head Cent has a minor rim clip at 6 o'clock. When you see clips associated with encased coins, it's usually the outer encasing with a clip, not the US Mint struck coin within it. It was made when an Indian Head cent with a small rim clip, was inserted into the blank, donut-shaped aluminum planchet, and then struck with the Good Luck Souvenir encasement dies. This method of manufacturing ensures that the cent is then held in place tightly by the aluminum encasing. You can tell that this coin is original to the encasement, because design elements of the outer ring bleed onto the Indian Head cent design rims. In other words, the die that did the overstriking not only struck the entire aluminum outer encasement, but also struck the design rim of the Indian Head Cent. It comes with an old Charles E. Kirtley auction/dealer envelope. Size/Diameter: 38mmComposition: Copper in aluminum encasementEngraver: UnknownMaker: UnknownMintage: Unknown Please review the photos closely before bidding.
